Welcome to my online home. My name is Genki and I am a Musician, Music Teacher and Music Researcher, based in Exeter Devon. On this site you will find information on my solo music, local bands, teaching practices, research and more... if you would like to contact me, click here

Genki is a Japanese word which literally translated means healthy, energetic and lively. It is a nick name I was given as I've always been always been hyperactive and hard working.

I am a multi-instrumentalist specialising in Drumkit and Percussion, but also playing guitar, bass, vocals, ukulele, keyboards and synths. On this website you will find links to my various teaching practices, bands and performances.

I am also a music researcher, focusing primarily on the Geographies of Music and Carcerality, as well as having an interesting in computer programming and webdesign. Below you will find information on my reasearch as well as my online music tools

Live Improvisations
-

Check out my live 1 hour improvisations, streamed on YouTube. They are based around live loops, electronic and acoustic instruments, with differing themes, styles and moods

I am to make these improvisations perfect for meditation, yoga, background music to chilled parties and study music.

Drum Lessons
-

Genki provides Drum Lessons from his home studio in Exeter. I started drumming at the age of 10 and am passionate about performing and teaching. I have a first class degree in music performance and have been regularly performing since the age of 10.

As I am a multi-instrumentalist you have the unique opportunity of jamming a long with another musician during your lessons. My drum studio is also kitted out with recording equipment allowing you to both review your performance and start creating your own recorded portfolio.

Creative Support
-

Run primarily by Shine Music (Alex Barton), the two companies work together to provide music sessions for adults and young people with learning difficulties and mental health issues. This is often termed as Creative Support as it combines care work with meaningful, fun and creative activities.

These sessions are mostly funded by direct payments however other funding sources are occasionally available. They provide a well-earned break for care workers and family members as well as building self esteem and happiness for the participants.

Break III (Live Cover Band)

Playing Rock Classics Anthems, Indie and Pop Punk, this cover band is perfect for parties, weddings and pub gigs.

Covering songs by Muse, GreenDay, Lynyrd Skynyrd, The Red Hot Chilli Peppers, Foo Fighters, The Black Crows, Rage Against the Machine, Mettalica - Break III Promise a night of sing along Rock Classics.

One More Ale (Live Cover Band)

Playing Middle of the Road, Rock and Pop crowd pleasers, One More Ale are great for any function.

We can provide our own PA system and be loud or quiet using acoustic or electronic drum kit.

Music Workshops

Together with Shine Music & Film, we offer professional music workshops for people of all backgrounds and abilities. Our workshops range from Music Technology & Recording to African Drumming. We have experience in working with autistic youth groups, mental health groups, professional musicians and dance groups.
